Transport Management System
How perfectly harmonized IT helps achieving top performance
More efficient processes, a higher degree of automation, less paper, faster project completion through collaborative work – Logwin’s globally standardized transport management system (TMS) makes this and much more possible. To this end, all of the relevant business processes have been integrated into the system over the past few years.
Logwin continuously invests in outsourcing its operational infrastructure. With the introduction of the new transport management system around the world, this strategy received a significant innovation boost. The efficient collection and management of all the process data and the highly integrated nature of the standardized transport management system increase transparency along the entire supply chain – all of the processes are monitored automatically, susceptibility to errors due to inconsistencies and process disruptions decreases rapidly, and the sophisticated functionality and user-friendliness ensure that daily work is carried out with a high level of efficiency. This offers the customer the benefit of above-average information reliability for their planning. Data storage and operation take place in Logwin’s own global network and data centers.
Switching to a leading transportation management system involves establishing forward-looking efficiency and process standards. A project team of nearly 40 employees from Germany, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Spain, China, Malaysia, South Africa, Singapore, India, Australia, and Brazil was responsible for the rollout. As part of a company-wide mobilization, processes were redefined, interfaces created, IT infrastructure modernized, and global training conducted.
After the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Vietnam, Spain, Italy, and Taiwan were added in 2019, connections to Austria, Thailand, China, and Germany, among other locations, followed in 2020 – building on the experience of these successful initial implementations. For locations with particularly complex customs regulations such as Australia, South Africa, and the UK, we also introduced a built-in customs clearance module. In 2021, we successfully completed the project by rolling out the system to our Latin American subsidiaries.
Extensive training measures for all employees of the relevant national companies were an integral part of the rollout. Due to coronavirus-related travel restrictions and security measures, most of these were conducted virtually. Three years of intense work, company-wide training programs, and significant investments have helped to generate the technological framework for a successful continuation of the international transport business in the air and sea sectors. As part of this project, the Logwin IT infrastructure has once again proven itself as a highly reliable building block of the company. The new TMS is exceptionally user-friendly, which significantly contributed to its rapid implementation and high level of acceptance in the field.
Other Important IT Systems
The Logwin order tracking system (LOTS) makes it possible to track every single order, right down to the purchase order level. As a result, LOTS creates end-to-end transparency along the entire supply chain, from production to the final recipient. Our customers are notified of the occurrence of defined events by means of a self-explanatory traffic light system. The accompanying documents can be uploaded for each order and can be accessed digitally via the tracking number. In this way, each item of cargo takes its documents with it on every step of the journey.
The electronic data interchange (EDI) system converts forms into standardized formats and avoids errors that occur during manual data entry. Around 25,000 such conversions per day ensure that data quality remains extremely high.
Our customer relationship management system (CRMS) serves as the central data repository for all customer data. This “single source of truth” enables us to respond to requests individually at any time, regardless of which representative is involved, and to provide personalized service to each and every customer. Because the information about the goods is available from a central location, our customers are also able to provide information to their buyers at any time. Furthermore, customized statistics and reports give them the ability to optimize their logistics costs for each individual product.
The switch to the new TMS has already been a complete success for us: Since 2022, all our sites in 37 countries are now interconnected in accordance with uniform standards and with worldwide customer and job data maintained centrally – in other words, a “one-file system.” Logwin’s commitment to quality guarantees outstanding service at every point along the supply chain. This is also made possible through the use of high-quality, and above all globally standardized, software systems that include customer interfaces and, where possible, customs clearance activities.
