Perfectly coordinated – Logwin transported 15,300 stadium seats to Qatar for the Handball World Championship

30 tonnes of airfreight from China and Malaysia – the sports hall in Lusail was ready for use on time thanks to punctual delivery.

Grevenmacher (Luxembourg) /Aschaffenburg (Germany) – Sports fans from all over the world watched the Handball World Championship in Qatar. It was not just the team performances that caused lively discussion, but also the empty spectator seats – including in the newly built sports hall in Lusail near Doha. This certainly wasn't because of the logistics. Despite busy flights in the pre-Christmas season, Logwin succeeded in conveying 15,300 seats and around 100 tables for the VIP area to Qatar on time. The project team shipped a total of 30 tonnes per airfreight from China and Malaysia.

In China, Logwin organised transportation from the airport in Beijing and in Malaysia all the way from the factory in Kuala Lumpur. "The total volume was huge, which is why we split the goods up into eight air freight shipments," explains Christian Goedden, National Sales Manager at Logwin in Malaysia. "That made it easier to book the freight space as well as to arrange the onward transportation from Doha." An average of around 2,000 seats went on board each machine.

Just-in-time for transportation

The time remaining until the opening ceremony was short and so an efficient logistical solution was needed. Logwin first negotiated the best possible air freight allocations with the airlines and then informed the customer about the flight plans. "This enabled the company to produce the seats, tables, armrests and podiums just-in-time – directly from production to truck," says Christian Goedden.

Additional component parts such as seat cushions and armrests had to arrive simultaneously from Malaysia and China. Logwin staff from Kuala Lumpur and Beijing cooperated closely to achieve this, keeping close contact with the manufacturer on a daily basis. "Our customer knew exactly when which shipment would arrive at Doha Airport. Using these precise details it was able to schedule workers appropriately to set up the sports hall in Lusail," explains Christian Goedden. The hall was ready for use in time for the opening ceremony and the subsequent opening game between Qatar and Brazil.
