Logwin invests in a modern logistics facility in Schwäbisch Gmünd

An innovative facility is currently being built in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany. Logwin is implementing a new logistics concept starting in 2016.

Aschaffenburg, Germany – Logwin has developed a new logistics concept with automated processes for Robert Bosch Automotive Steering GmbH, formerly ZF Lenksysteme GmbH. Beginning in 2016, Logwin will be implementing this concept at its Schwäbisch Gmünd site and is investing in the construction of a state-of-the-art logistics facility to do so. An agreement has been signed with property developer Goodman pursuant to this.

The new facility is being built on a 28,000-square-metre premises in the Schwäbisch Gmünd Industrial Park, east of Stuttgart. The facility includes a warehouse with 13,000 square metres of space with 13 gates for loading and unloading of goods, 1,000 square metres of office space and 1,000 square metres of covered outdoor space.

Automatic processes, driverless transport systems

Starting in 2016, Logwin will be warehousing complete steering systems for its customers as well as developing and realising individual packaging solutions for air and sea transport of the products. These are new, largely automated processes: when operation commences, driverless transport systems will bring the parts to various stations; freight will be completely automatically strapped. The testing phase is expected to begin in November, with a planned opening date of 1 January 2016. “We can conduct the newest generation of logistics in the new facility,” says Marcus Cebulla, member of the Logwin management board. “It results in improved process quality and a more efficient flow of materials.”.

Logwin has been working with Robert Bosch Automotive Steering GmbH for 25 years. The steering system manufacturer issued a new call for tenders for its logistics at the end of last year – Logwin was awarded the contract to continue this long-term collaboration until 2021. However the new logistical requirements could not be realised at the current Logwin sites in Schwäbisch Gmünd and nearby Schorndorf. Around 100 employees committed to serving the customer will be moving to the new location in early 2016.
