Logwin brings eTransport to Austria’s Streets

Presentation of a 7.5-Tonner converted to electric drive on the Krone E-Mobility Play Days

Grevenmacher (Luxembourg), diesel motor out-electrical drive axel in. Logwin Austria presents its first 7.5-ton e-transporter converted to an electric drive at the Krone E-Mobility Play Days at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria. Logwin has been using the vehicle in a field test since September 2019 in the Vienna city logistics.

From old to new… and completely emission-free

Together with their innovation partners BPW Bergische Achsen, FZP Fahrzeugbedarf, and the specialty vehicle experts at Paul Nutzfahrzeuge, Logwin developed a new sustainability concept, which focuses on retrofitting existing diesel-driven vehicles with electric drive axels and high-performance batteries. After a test- and optimization phase, a first up-cycled vehicle has been successfully deployed at Logwin within the scope of Vienna city logistics. The experience in the first months of operation have been very positive: “To date, there have been no failures. The up-cycled vehicle flows reliably and silently through the city center of Vienna, and with the kilometers driven, even exceeds our expectations” said Franz Bräuer, branch manager of the Logwin locations Traiskirchen and Vienna.

Given these positive results of the first practical tests, the e-Transporter was presented to a broad audience at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg from September 28th to 29th, together with the e-cargo bicycles also used by Logwin at the Krone E-Mobility Play Days. The interest in these sustainable and at the same time extremely pragmatic transport solutions was very high in Spielberg.

Win-win situation for Man and Environment

This alternative form of drive offers Logwin’s customers, but also the cities, numerous benefits in the delivery of the final mile. Due to the weight-neutral conversion, there is no payload loss. In additions to the emission-free delivery, the noise is also significantly reduced. The option of “silent” delivery at night for urban transport becomes significantly more realistic with this technical concept. A win-win situation for companies and the environment.

The deployment of the e-Transport is part of a large-scale sustainability strategy. According to Thomas Eisen, Member of the Executive Committee of Logwin AG: “Sustainability is an essential part of our company culture. In parallel with our commitment to the e-Transport, we are also investing in the expansion of e-filling stations, which are available in sufficient form at all of our Austrian locations, and can be used free of charge by employees and visitors. The Traiskirchen and Vienna sites will be equipped with photovoltaic systems in the next year to ensure a largely self-sufficient energy supply. The company car fleet is also increasingly being converted to an electric model.
