Warehousing: Logwin opens customs warehouse in Madrid and strengthens its fashion competence

Grevenmacher (Luxembourg) – The global logistics service provider Logwin has been operating a customs warehouse at its Madrid location since the beginning of 2011. The new service speeds up import and export processing, which is a major reason why hardware supplier Teldat chose Logwin to be its logistics partner. At the same time, Logwin is also strengthening its fashion competence at its Madrid location – its customs warehouse for hanging garments is the first of its kind for an independent logistics service provider in Spain.

Thanks to its customs authorization Logwin can commit imported goods to officially bonded storage at its location. 500m² is currently available for this purpose, and if necessary this area can be increased to 5,000m². The benefit for customers from all sectors is that import sales tax is only due when goods leave the warehouse for the final customer. “This service saves our customers hard cash and the necessity of an additional third warehouse,” explains Joachim Hesse, Country Director of Logwin’s national business in Spain. “The combination of customs warehouse plus global logistics is especially attractive for customers in the field of procurement logistics since companies are extremely interested in managing their liquidity in the best possible way.”

Routers for Spain

Hardware supplier Teldat uses Logwin’s customs warehouse in Madrid for deliveries to one of Spain’s leading telecommunications providers. Logwin has been holding Teldat routers for the company’s replenishment supplies since March 2011. The customs service enables Logwin to complete import formalities faster and more easily. “Teldat obtains its equipment from Hong Kong and Shanghai,” explains Joachim Hesse. “Our uncomplicated customs solution constitutes a clear competitive advantage for Teldat. We therefore expect to be able to acquire further customers from import-dependent sectors for our service.”

Even more fashion competence

Logwin is the first independent logistics service provider in Spain to offer a customs warehouse for hanging garments – up to 2,000 m² could be used for this purpose in Madrid. This is enabling Logwin to strengthen its lead in fashion logistics. The company has been operating on behalf of renowned customers from the textile industry for many years. “For example, we have been performing central transhipment services for the Spanish fashion company Cortefiel for more than 15 years. We collect garments from Turkey and distribute the finished collection to retail businesses all over Europe,” explains Joachim Hesse. “The new customs warehouse is enabling us to extend the one-stop services we offer in this area.”

Customs warehouses in Spain – licensing requirements

Operating a customs warehouse in Spain is by no means easy since it is tied to strict conditions. Spanish customs authorities visit and inspect every applicant’s site. Premises, equipment, processes and staff expertise must all be up to standard as customs authorization is linked with direct access to the customs authorities’ IT application.
