Logwin operates new cross-docking centre for Douglas in Renningen
Grevenmacher (Luxembourg) – The logistics services provider Logwin put a new cross-docking center into operation to the west of Stuttgart at the beginning of the year on behalf of Douglas. In Renningen Logwin bundles the cosmetics and lifestyle products from around 100 suppliers. After performing quality inspection, labelling and other value-added services, the logistics services provider distributes the articles to some 80 Douglas stores throughout the region. Deliveries are made between two and five times a week.
Logwin and Europe’s leading perfumery company Douglas have been cooperating for more than 10 years in Germany and Austria. Besides Renningen, Logwin operates further cross-docking centres for its customer at locations in Aschaffenburg, Hamburg and Langenfeld.
Store-specific and shelf-ready
In order to prepare individual consignments for each store, Logwin employees first unpack all shipments arriving at the cross-docking center in Renningen. Each article is scanned, labelled and if necessary fitted with a security tag. “The next step is to pack the goods into reusable containers”, explains Dr. Stephan Freichel, Managing Director Solutions | Sales and Logistics Engineering at Logwin. “We ensure that the containers are filled to match the shelves.” This means that Logwin staff sort the items according to product group such as ladies or men’s perfumes, skin care products or decorative cosmetics.
A proven concept
Instead of several part-deliveries, the Douglas stores just receive one shelf-ready consignment on each delivery day. “The cross-docking concept has proven its worth for us”, says Dr. Michael Krings, Director Logistics and Organisation International, Parfümerie Douglas GmbH. “On the one hand, stores no longer require costly storage space. On the other, our staff are no longer required spend time unpacking the goods and attaching price labels – they can concentrate on serving our customers.”
