Logwin implements integrated logistics solution for Borne Door Elements
Grevenmacher (Luxembourg) – The logistics services provider Logwin distributes and returns ready-to-install interior doors and frames for Borne Door Elements. Seven Logwin branches work hand in hand with the door specialist, which employs 800 people at its headquarters in Trierweiler (Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany).
Within just a few weeks Logwin implemented the distribution plan for Borne. The cooperation started successful: After the kick-off signal in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg in mid-February 2009, Borne also commissioned Logwin for the Rhine-Ruhr region in mid-March. In the meantime, Borne now ships up to 150 pallets with Logwin each week within Germany.
“In order to guarantee the permanent replenishment of our products in home-improvement stores, we must be able to react with speed and flexibility. Additionally, with a wide variety of differing surfaces, doors and frames require very sensitive handling,” says Jörg Otto, Director Logistics with Borne Door Elements. “Logwin’s transportation solution is exactly calibrated to these requirements and to our processes and procedures. This contributes considerably to our quality.”
The right delivery timing
Shipping begins in the state-of-the-art high-rack warehouse at Borne’s headquarters. From the city of Trier Logwin services its customer, organizes and supervises the transportation chain and additionally coordinates the line transports into Logwin’s distribution centers. What is decisive in the execution is the exact timing. “We guarantee late loading times – up to 10pm,” says Bernhard Lehnen, Branch Manager in Logwin’s business segment Road + Rail. “Already at 6am trucks start arriving at the Logwin locations. From there they deliver to the home-improvement stores.” Borne informs the stores of the impending deliveries beforehand by remote data transmission. For delivery of the doors loaded on up to 2.2-meters high full pallets, Logwin uses its own lift platforms.
Returns and direct transports
In addition to distribution in Germany, Logwin also handles returns directly from the home-improvement markets to Bourne’s headquarters in Trierweiler. The transport logistics provider also supports its customer internationally: With direct transports Logwin regularly ships larger orders to Hungary and Greece. Borne’s Director Logistics Jörg Otto sums it up, saying, “We are very satisfied with Logwin’s sophisticated transportation approach. If the cooperation continues to prove reliable in the future we will be putting together further mutual projects.”
