Grevenmacher (Luxembourg) – The global logistics service provider Logwin is continuing to expand its operational network in China. Logwin opened a new sales office in the western Chinese metropolis of Chengdu on 1st December. Two new offices have opened for business in Dongguan and Foshan in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong in 2011, both cities situated around 150 kilometres from Hong Kong. Logwin's branch in nearby Guangzhou was extended in October.
"Our current expansion in China is the first step toward our even greater commitment to this very promising market", declares Helmut Kaspers, COO of the business segment Air + Ocean at Logwin. Logwin has been present in China for over 40 years and currently has 25 offices in 11 provinces. The logistics service provider is planning three new openings in the southern coastal region of China in 2012. An additional nine offices are scheduled to open in southern and central China by 2015.
Chengdu: Westward expansion
The new Logwin office in Chengdu, the capital of the province of Sichuan, is the second business centre after Chongqing operated by the logistics service provider in western China. "The Go West policy promoted by the Chinese government means that foreign investment in central and western China is increasing", explains Henk Westerhoek, Country Director Central and Northern China at Logwin. "Our clients are also relocating their activities more and more toward the middle of the country.“ With the opening of the office in Chengdu, Logwin is now involved in one of the most important commercial centres in western China - many global companies have already discovered the city's value. The demand for logistics services is on the up and up.
Greater presence in Pearl River Delta
Logwin has also enhanced its presence in the Pearl River Delta business area this year. New offices were opened in Dongguan and Foshan and the Guangzhou centre was expanded, with Logwin moving into larger premises in October. "Guangzhou is a dynamic hub, a major industrial and commercial centre", declares Jimmy Chow, Country Director Southern China and Hong Kong at Logwin. "Our new office is a great springboard for expanding our air and ocean freight business activities." In addition to Dongguan, Foshan and Guangzhou, Logwin has Pearl River Delta offices in Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
The new locations
Chengdu: Chengdu is one of the fastest growing cities in China, with more than 10 million inhabitants. In addition to local food production and medical technology firms, numerous large international companies from the IT, automotive, mechanical engineering and pharmaceutical industries have established headquarters here - including IBM, Intel, Motorola, Siemens and Dell. Chengdu is also headquarters to aviation construction and technology companies. 133 of the world's 500 largest multinational companies have a branch in Chengdu.
(Pan) Pearl River Delta: The Pearl River Delta lies in southern China in the province of Guangdong. Several cities with over one million inhabitants such as Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Dongguan and Foshan are all tightly packed into this region. Numerous production companies, for example in the IT, pharmaceutical, textiles and footwear industries have established branches in the Pearl River Delta. In addition to Guangdong, the Pan Pearl River Delta economic region also includes the provinces of Sichuan, Yunnan, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hainan, Hunan, Jiangxi, Fujian plus Hong Kong and Macao.
Guangdong Province, the economic engine of the entire Pan Pearl River Delta, posted a gross domestic product (GDP) of USD 695 billion in 2010. This equates to a 12 percent increase over 2009.
