Logwin: Enhanced IT security through extended data center
Grevenmacher (Luxembourg) – The international logistics service provider Logwin has enhanced its IT environment in Europe. In addition to its existing data center in Grevenmacher it has now opened a new data center 30 kilometers away at Bettemburg in Luxembourg. This new infrastructure has been providing primarily customers of Logwin even greater security in the operation of IT applications since July 2011.
Both locations operate redundant server and database systems which are permanently synchronized. To this end a data volume of some 10 terabytes must be transferred each day. A data packet requires less than 500 microseconds (0.0005 seconds) to travel the optical fiber connection between the two data centers. In the event of a fault at one of the locations, the second site can assume the task of providing applications and data. Even if an entire data center fails completely, operations can switch to the other site within a few hours. The WAN (wide area network) lines connecting all Logwin locations is also designed to be fail-safe via both data centers. The new infrastructure thus makes a significant contribution to IT security at Logwin.
Logwin offers its customers numerous logistical services based on a high level of integration of business processes via IT interfaces such as warehouse management, just-in-sequence deliveries in the automotive supplies industry, data communications for time-sensitive media logistics or tracking and tracing for air and sea freight consignments.
