Logwin Courier celebrates its 20th anniversary.
• Prinovis one of the very first customers
• New software marks the anniversary year
Grevenmacher (Luxembourg) – The global logistics service provider Logwin has been transporting urgent, important and valuable consignments with its Logwin Courier service for the last 20 years. It established its own courier service on 17 June 1991.
Holger Schönberg, Head of Logwin Courier, involved from the very beginning, looks back. The idea for Logwin’s own express courier service originated in media logistics, since transporting time-critical documents and shipments places the same demands on logistics as delivering daily newspapers – speed and absolute reliability. “For a long time it made sense for both areas to make use of synergies and transport their loads in the same vehicles,” says Holger Schönberg. When transport volumes increased, press logistics consignments were separated from those of the express courier service in order to remain efficient and to be able to adapt to the special wishes and requirements of the relevant customers.
Individual service with standardized IT
Each year Logwin Courier organizes the shipment of around 50,000 consignments with a total weight of some1,000 tonnes from its main location in Norderstedt near Hamburg. Customers include banks, insurance companies, administrative bodies and federal offices. Print and media companies such as Prinovis have been relying on Logwin’s express courier services for the transport of their urgent print materials, proofs or spare parts for over 20 years. “Our core competence is dealing with orders, quantities and destinations that change from day to day,” explains Holger Schönberg. “Flexible shipping times as well as punctual and dependable delivery are given top priority.” The new software that Logwin is planning to introduce this year will bring customers, Courier staff and partners even closer together as data transmission for online orders with consignment tracking will be handled direct via Logwin’s data center in Luxembourg, eliminating internal frictional loss. These tools currently run via the Internet.
Time is money
The type of consignments ranges from paper documents and fragile works of art to solar modules, which is why not just vans are used for transportation but also trucks. The consignor specifies when the shipment should be collected and delivered. “Our regular customers include professional photographers who have to send broken cameras in for repair and receive them back by return,” explains Holger Schönberg.
In order to ensure both speedy and careful processing, Logwin Courier works with a semi-automated processing system at its central transshipment location in Bad Hersfeld. Employees place consignments onto the conveyor belt manually and also remove them manually, shipping instructions such as “Fragile - handle with care” are read and observed. “A fully automated system cannot manage that,” says Holger Schönberg. “Our processing is therefore ideal for shipments that need special attention such as paintings and works of art.” The information provided by Courier service staff at the Norderstedt location near Hamburg is also customized and personal. This is where everything converges, from advice and order acceptance to processing.
