Grevenmacher (Luxembourg) – The global logistics service provider Logwin has strengthened its presence on the African continent, opening its second location in Kenya in the city of Mombasa and expanding its warehousing capacity in South Africa at its locations in Johannesburg and Cape Town. “Kenya and South Africa offer considerable potential for growth”, says Helmut Kaspers, COO of the business segment Air + Ocean at Logwin AG. “We wish to continue to open up this market for our customers.” Sub-Saharan countries in Africa rank second behind Asia on the list of growth regions of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Well positioned in Kenya

First Nairobi, now Mombasa. Logwin established its own country organization in Kenya in the spring of 2010 with its first location in the capital, Nairobi. The second location followed in Mombasa in October. “The launch went smoothly, and the results after the first three months are extremely promising”, explains Patrick Federle, Managing Director Region Africa at Logwin’s Air + Ocean business segment. “There is a great demand for our services in the area of sea freight imports, in particular.” Mombasa is the second largest city in Kenya and the most important port in East Africa, which is also used by neighbouring countries such as Tanzania and Uganda for their import and export trade. Logwin provides services in Kenya, for example, for customers from the consumer goods, perishable goods and telecommunications sectors.

More space in South Africa

All the signs in South Africa indicate growth for Logwin. The company opened its second warehouse in Johannesburg, the country’s economic capital, on 1 January 2011. It offers space for 3,400 pallets over approx. 3,500 m². This means that Logwin now manages a total of 6,500 m² of storage and logistics space in Johannesburg. The logistics service provider uses the new warehouse as a distribution center for valuable and sensitive goods such as fashion and lifestyle articles as well as electronics products. And Logwin has also invested in new capacity in Cape Town, commissioning a larger warehouse there in mid-November 2010. The newly built facility is located next to the airport, where Logwin has around 1,000 m² of storage space and 400 m² of offices at its disposal. “Business in South Africa is developing extremely well”, says Patrick Federle. “The expansion of capacity is our response to the increasing demand for dependable storage and logistics solutions.” Logwin has had a presence in South Africa for over 30 years. Today, the logistics specialist operates locations in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, East London and Port Elizabeth and employs more than 100 staff.
