Logwin realigns its business segments Solutions and Road + Rail
Grevenmacher (Luxembourg) – The Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Logwin AG have decided to realign the activities of the business segments Solutions and Road + Rail. This decision is the company’s reaction to the global economic crisis and the challenges resulting from it in the logistics market. The aim of the new organization is to align the activities of the business segment Solutions even more closely towards sales and at the same time to drastically reduce administrative costs. The activities of Road + Rail will be significantly reduced in order to concentrate on sustainably profitable areas of the business.
The strategic direction of the business segment Air + Ocean remains unchanged. Logwin is already well positioned here and again delivered impressive proof of the efficiency of its air and sea freight activities in the first quarter of 2009.
Solutions: reorganization according to business processes
Within the business segment Solutions, the so far industry-related business units Industrial Goods, Consumer Goods, Media and Fashion will be incorporated into three units differentiated by their core processes:
- Sales and Logistics Engineering
- Logistics and Warehousing
- Transport and Retail Networks
The new structure is the logical further development of the organization according to business processes that applies to the whole Group and does not entail a reorganization regarding the work content of the business segment. Instead, it aims to strengthen Solutions’ market orientation. For the first time, the sales functions will be bundled into a single, powerful unit. The range of optimum and efficient services for the customer will be supported by the tight organization of the operational processes. The business segment Solutions will continue to be led by the Group’s CEO, Berndt-Michael Winter.
Road + Rail: reduction in activities
The disappointing results at the business segment Road + Rail require resolute actions in order to streamline business activities in land transportation. This will involve closing businesses and divestments. Some activities will be integrated into the business segment Solutions in order to benefit from synergies. Strategic partners will be increasingly sought for cooperation on network activities. Fringe activities with little affinity to the Logwin Group’s other core business will be divested.
A comprehensive review process will be conducted in the coming months at the business segment Road + Rail, including a legal due diligence investigation into its activities. External consultants will assist the company in this. Individual measures such as the incorporation of “solutions-related” business into the business segment Solutions are being implemented. The reorganization of Solutions has already created the prerequisites for a successful continuation of these activities. Within the Executive Committee, the CFO of the Logwin Group, Dr. Antonius Wagner, is responsible for implementing the measures at the business segment Road + Rail.
