Net income higher than expected, net sales clearly exceed plan, operating income more than doubled

Grevenmacher / Luxemburg - Thiel Logistik AG has increased net sales in 2001 by 101 percent to EUR 901.7 million and thereby clearly exceeded its plan figures. Thiel also achieved an impressive operating income of EUR 65.1 million (plus 109 percent) in spite of a weak economic environment and integration costs for the companies acquired during 2001. Net income grew 107 percent to EUR 46.6 million and earnings per share were up 106 percent to 72 cents per share. A net income of EUR 44,8 million accordingly 68 cents per share were expected by financial analysts. Total liabilities and shareholders` equity amounted to EUR 659.2 million, goodwill amounted to EUR 125.6 million. Shareholders` equity rose from EUR 179.8 million to EUR 273.7 million. Return on Equity (ROE) rose from 17.4 percent to 23.8 percent in 2001. Return on Capital Employed (ROCE) rose to 16 percent, net debt amounted to EUR 99,9 million. Thiel`s HealthCare Logistics + Services division achieved the highest growth rate in 2001. The operating income in this area rose by 215 percent to EUR 19.2 million, while net sales increased by 210 percent to EUR 139.3 million. With operating income of EUR 26.6 million, Value-Added Services was the segment with the strongest earnings. Net sales in this division amounted to EUR 241.2 million. Contract Logistics / E-Logistics contributed net sales of EUR 521.2 million and an operating income of EUR 19,3 million to Thiel`s total figures. Organic growth within the Thiel Group amounted to around 30 percent in the previous year.
