Business studies degree in Munich. Following a PhD and qualification as tax consultant, employment in the accounting department at Bayerische Vereinsbank in Munich, Head of Finance at DG Bank, Frankfurt, from 1994 to 1996. Subsequently Head of Division and member of the Division Board of Management with responsibility for Group Accounting and Controlling at Bayerische Vereinsbank in Munich (subsequently known as HypoVereinsbank following the merger). Chief Risk Officer on the Management Board, HypoVereinsbank, Munich, from 2003 to 2005. From July 2006 member of the Management Board, BayernLB. From March 2008 to December 2009 Chairman of the Management Board, BayernLB.
